A week of photographic heaven in an amazingly diverse and phenomenal landscape that will have been recently “changed forever due to the volcanic eruption of 2021″ on the west side of the island so I will see a new landscape from the last time I visited, I’m not sure how I will feel when I see the changes! I truly love this island & Covid has prevented my next visit until now, so I am desperate to make my 3rd trip to “The beautiful island” or as I refer to it “The island of clouds” as we will quite often be above them and occasional in them, it is a truly phenomenal experience one that people who have been say they never forget!
La Palma, the greenest of the Canary Islands, currently offering the chance to experience real unspoiled nature. Verdant forests in the North where lush vegetation drips from the rainforest canopy, to the desert landscapes of the south, where volcanic craters and twisted rock formations define the views, to the serene pine forests of the Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente. No wonder the entire island has been declared a Unesco biosphere reserve. The volcanic area in the centre of the island up to the Pine forests I could spend days in and this is where the 2021 volcano erupted officially ending on Christmas day 2021 so we will spend some good time here as walking this area is much easier & we can (could if it’s not there) park easily in the heart of it all.
This trip will be a leisurely, relaxed & fun trip with, although some places will require a “good level of fitness” time at spent each location is down to us unless ticket machine for parking dictates. We will fully immerse ourselves in our surroundings, taking time to make fantastic images, that is the mantra for the trip! I have decided it’s best to locate our base on the East side of the island for easy sunrise travel for those who want to join me, then it’s back to the villa for a quick breakfast then carry on for the rest of the day.
The list of places to visit is extensive but will remain flexible throughout the trip as weather and light etc will play a part on where we go & when, so any itinerary isn’t cast in stone. The wonderful volcanic beaches will play a big part in the trip, especially at sunrise as I am always up to do that.
Then we have the North of the island with its waterfall & rainforest environment which is amazing to see and experience against the rest of the island also the natural sea pools on the rugged but beautiful coastline, the National Park to the centre of the island is a must do, this maybe restrictive to some due to the amount of walking that some people “won’t want to or can’t do”, some areas are accessible by car so we may stick to them, group to discuss as we go.
The south of the island will also be visited to do the Natural Salt Pans & lighthouses, there are also some lovely beaches around this part and a “moon like” landscape too along with the Volcano that created the volcanic wilderness in this area not the recent one of 2021..
We will also visit some of the beautiful towns and the fabulous architecture and colourful houses, unspoilt Canarian charm & so clean you actually notice it, Los Lanos, Tazacorte and the main town of Santa Cruz are for me must do’s.
